About Me
Some of Guy’s creative duties for Jim included working on the finished artwork for toys, books, merchandise and packaging, as well as developing additional ideas for syndicated comics. These included a daily cartoon based on Fraggle Rock and The Muppet Babies. Ultimately, these cartoon projects remain unpublished. “The Muppets” comic strip was collected in book form with various publishers around the world in the 1980s.
His Muppets work was permanently enshrined in the Smithsonian in 1984, with First Lady Nancy Reagan declaring him “a national treasure”.
Guy also headed publishing and/or licensing for TMNT, Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Tiny Toons, Pink Panther, and Disney among other cartoon icons. Some of his professional titles have included the East Coast Art Director for Warner Brothers and the Creative Director for MGM Studios.
He drew the “Nancy” comic strip (UFS)(Universal) for 23 years along with the “Night Lights” comic strip, the “Mudpie” comic strip, and the “Your Angels Speak” comic strip for various news syndicates. Altogether, Guy has worked on nine syndicated comic strips in his career.
He has worked on and off for The Disney Company for over 50 years, beginning at age 16 by creating coloring books. He has worked on children’s books for Disney including DuckTales, Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, DarkWing Duck, Minnie and Me, and The Little Mermaid’s Treasure Chest book series.
Guy Gilchrist is the author and illustrator of over 60 children’s books including the Tiny Dinos series and Night Lights & Pillow Fights, volumes I & II, which received Silver Reuben Awards from the National Cartoonists Society and a Bank Street Award. It has also been on the cover of Publisher’s Weekly Magazine. The Tiny Dinos garnered three Children’s Choice Awards from the International Reading Council of the United Nations.
